Our Story

Nor-Am opened the doors on one building with 12 employees in March of 1999. Today, we have nearly 600 employees in 7 states and 13 buildings.

With the second generation fully on board, Nor-Am continues to expand in both size and services.  While a lot has changed over the years, one thing has and will remain the same.  Greg’s top two rules for business, “If the phone rings, answer it,” and

A solid foundation

Nor-Am opened its’ doors in 1999, but our love affair with cold storage goes back to the early 1980’s. 

Our founder, Greg Brandt, was in his early 20’s with a young wife and three very young kids. He took a night job working on the dock in cold storage to help make ends meet while farming was slow. It was supposed to last six months, nice try.

By the time fall harvest was done, he had moved to a supervisor position and was officially hooked on the cold storage industry.

Greg worked his way up from being a seasonal dock worker to owning his own cold storage.  He saw the good, the bad, and the ugly of this industry at every step of the way.

Greg's experience in Cold Storage drives us to treat employees like family and customers like partners.

A family focus

Fast forward to the mid-90’s, and after several promotions and moving to a new company, Greg found himself suddenly unemployed.

For the next two years, Greg and his wife, Janna, spent their evenings at the family dinner table dreaming, planning and eventually creating, Nor-Am Cold Storage. Over 20 years later, they still have the same dinner table and they still have the same focus on creating a family environment with a simple structure.

The ability to provide for their family while doing what they loved was at the heart of opening Nor-Am, it’s an opportunity that we strive to provide for our employees every day.

A bright future

Today, Nor-Am has more than 600 employees, in four states, and 12 buildings.  Greg and Janna lead the company as CEO and CFO. 

The second generation has joined them in the business and we are confident that our family-focused culture and our core policy will grow with us for years to come:
